_Updated October 2026._

Everyone enjoys spending money on something, even if the something makes no sense to anyone else. Mine is finding deals on tech. Half hobby, half side project.

## What's on the desk

- **Laptop**: Surface Pro 8, 16GB, bought 2022. Still the daily driver. 16GB was never close to enough.
- **Monitor**: coin flip between the laptop screen and whatever monitor is nearby.
- **Keyboard**: Glove80. If you've heard me complain about my wrists and whether I can keep doing this, this is why. The Keychron with silent switches was my endgame; my wrists disagreed.
- **Mouse**: Logi MX Master 3S, on sale only. I still can't believe they charge $160 for a mouse.
- **Headphones**: Shokz. Not an audiophile. Hours in over-ears every day stopped feeling good, so open-ear it is.
- **Chair / desk**: I spent too long auditioning chairs (Autonomous, Branch, Steelcase Leap, Embody). Current theory: ergonomics is mostly posture. Or I just can't sit properly in any chair.

## What I carry with me

- **Phone**: iPhone 15 Pro.
- **Bag**: Timbuk2.

## Terminal and editor

- **OS**: Windows with WSL2, after years of macOS. Prediction for 2040: macOS. Snip snap.
- **Shell**: fish, with starship for the prompt. I wrote [why](/posts/why-i-use-fish-shell) (post still a draft, link 404s until published), so I'll spare you the sermon.
- **Editor**: VS Code. Experimenting with Zed and Devin.
- **Database client**: DataGrip, mostly for the [scratch files](/posts/the-quiet-luxury-of-scratch-md) (post still draft).
